Embodied Rebellion (becoming uncivilized)
This workshop draws on achugar's own practice developed through years of making performances as a tool for liberating ourselves from presupposed ways of being in our bodies and allowing a more liberated and utopian future self to emerge. Via this practice we investigate ways of uncovering what's already present (but perhaps repressed or suppressed/oppressed) in ourselves, and how to create the conditions to let it manifest and appear on its own. A practice of growing a new body; a connected body; an anarchic body; a utopian body… by becoming uncivilized with a practice of being in pleasure.

Jimena Paz
1-3pm $125
In this workshop, you'll have the chance to experience the Feldenkrais Method® through a series of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® classes. The Feldenkrais Method® studies the works of our nervous system and our ability to recognize and create movement patterns that are both more efficient and more pleasant. The method emphasizes awareness, distribution of effort/action through the whole self, expanding self-perception and our ability to carry out our intentions. This workshop is ideal for dancers and people from different backgrounds interested in discovering more about their physicality in a pain-free way and enjoying a larger sense of well-being.

Donna Uchizono
3:30-6pm $150
Making Dances: Using Dance as the Question and Answer
Reveling in the process of revealing one's artistic voice, there will be opportunities for the dance maker to look, experiment, fail/succeed, create, and experience. The workshop explores our relationship to dance as a viewer and maker through observation, dialogue and making. Through the daily practice of dance making, we journey through the discovery of frameworks or structures derived from one's own concepts, history, embodiment, or from the work itself; explore the concepts of distillation and interruption; examine the possibility of universal moments; discuss dance's potential to engage in contemporary issues while leaning towards a more informed artist voice using dance as the question and answer.

Miguel Gutierrez
2-6pm $250
We focus on the creative process in making body/movement based performance. Through unequal parts making, discussing, improvising and watching the work of other workshop participants, we uncover and deepen your individual interests, your process and your work. Inherited notions of dance and performance are critiqued, absorbed or discarded in the service of creating performance that comes from a vital, necessary place and that speaks to a contemporary context. I am interested in identifying the tendencies and interests that we already have unconsciously in order to understand what we want to make. There is no one way to make work.
*Please note: this workshop takes place at Abrons Arts Center Studio G05.
