The future of our country and our world is at a tipping point. To transform the systems of extraction, exploitation, and violence that are destroying our planet and further harming the most marginalized communities, we need all hands on deck. As service providers, activists, caretakers, organizers, healers, and active community members, our psyches, spirits, and bodies must be cared for every step of the way — not sidelined until “after the work is done." We gotta still be here in order to make lasting change. Our own resilience is foundational to our strategy.

What we’ll do together:
— Share simple healing practices you can take with you: meditation, embodied practice, song, essential oils, & more
— Learn how systems of oppression are showing up in our our bodies, and what trauma and stress have to do with it
— Explore practices we need to interrupt oppression from passing through us into the work and cultivate more resilience
— Create a space of mutual care to be honest about our emotional realities and not have to perform hope, rep our current projects or campaigns, or hold the needs of others

All of the practices are completely accessible — no specific physical ability, supplies, experience, or exercise clothes needed! Best of all, we build a community of support with changemakers who share our commitment to liberation & wellbeing along the way.

Kate Werning grew into organizing by the resilient leadership of undocumented folks and youth of color in her hometown of Milwaukee, WI, organizing youth-led campaigns for racial justice and immigrant rights. She worked with Carlos Saavedra to launch the Ayni Institute, Momentum trainings, and Movimiento Cosecha. She is an Advisory Board member of OmTownYogis, and faculty at CTZNWELL where she spent the last 2 years as national Organizing Director, mobilizing wellbeing practitioners toward collective action for social change. She has presented on Tools for Social Change at the Yoga Service Council and is a member of the founding faculty of Liberation School, a cohort of changemakers in a year-long liberatory leadership development program hosted through the Highlander Center.

After years of feeling depleted, and refusing to believe that organizing is inevitably exhausting, Kate took up a yoga practice that has served to ground her path. She trained as a trauma-informed Hatha yoga teacher and with Oppression in the Soma. She integrates somatic tools into her organizing to work from the heart, as well as focusing on interdependence and social justice in her yoga classes at Third Root. Her primary learning lab is the Community House she started in Ditmas Park with 7 like-hearted housemates who represent a spectrum of what it can look like to work for social change and build gracious, hospitable community.
