TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA AS RECOVERY & TREATMENT SUPPORT FOR TRAUMA & SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS
An Introductory Workshop Recommended for Mental Health Professionals and Yoga Instructors
Facilitated by 7Seeds Yoga Clinical and Yoga Team members, this weekend workshop explores the value of trauma-informed/trauma-sensitive yoga, its distinction from ‘yoga therapy’ and traditional schools of yoga, and the power of practice within and beyond the context of treatment for trauma and substance use disorders. (T/SUD) Attendees will develop an understanding of the particularly intimate relationship between T/SUD’s and the growing evidence base for the clinical application of trauma-informed yoga as a therapeutic adjunct to traditional cognitive based approaches. Students will appreciate the relevance and implications for yoga instructors as allies to mental health care providers as recovering communities expand and western health systems move towards a model of ‘integrated care’. Students will also be introduced to the latest research and recommended training in preparation for this shift in our healthcare systems. Students will also be led in a 7Seeds Yoga practice model, using a trauma-informed, strengths based yoga instruction to deliver psycho-education within the treatment milieu. In addition to providing treatment and recovery support, 7Seeds Yoga provides professional training and support to our communities. 7Seeds Yoga is a peer-run, nonprofit organization serving groups and individuals with trauma and substance use disorders.
The 7Seeds Yoga Mission is “to nurture awareness & healing of the total being” and the 7Seeds Yoga Vision focused on “changing minds one body at a time”. Proceeds from this workshop will help support the 7Seeds Yoga Mission.
