One year ago I was in Hùsavik, Iceland. The desert landscapes come to grips with us. The nature is stronger than ever. We feel small but we feel in accordance with it. The body and the spirit washes themselves of any constraints, stress, and obligations.
Here, I have the objective to get lost in this labyrinth of impressive forms. I walk. I get carried away.
From the Icelandic north coast to New York, the connections are possible.
I am in perpetual research for new spaces, intensity and contrast of landscapes. The horizon line became an obsession.
When I am back in the studio, I research a vocabulary of forms by creating a working protocol which structures my feelings or what I saw over the moment. I question the drawing practice, its exhibition and how it takes towards the creation of poetic space referring to my memory.
Maureen Colomar was born in France and spent her childhood in Reunion Island next to South Africa. She graduated from Fine Art Institute of Besançon, France. Currently lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
*Special thanks to dear friend Magdalen Wong for putting us in touch.
PRACTICE, founded by three artists in 2015. PRACTICE is located on the top floor of a Cantonese building in the Lower East Side (Chinatown), New York.
Not only is it our studio, it is also an exhibition space that welcomes migrating friends passing by the city to live in and work on their projects for free. We collect and sell independently-published books, as well as artist’s playthings.
