Catch Kohinoorgasm (LA) and Diaspoura (NC) in NYC thanks to Trans Pecos, with the local support of Shara Lunon and BindiRam!
>> Shara Lunon aka Sha-Ra the panther paw, aka RaRa bird no.3, has dedicated herself to the art of voice. She studied Ethnomusicology and Vocal Performance at the University of Florida, focusing on the operatic technique. During and since, she has experimented in the vocal stylings of electronic/dance, hip-hop, and R&B in such groups as MSNRA, Jovian Junction Orchestra, and Wizard Women. Shara has also been a member of the Church of Holy Colors/Milagros art collective, and aided in the formation of the Elestial Sound record label. Recently relocated to the big apple, she hopes to further her work in codifying her style of «hiphopera».
>> Diaspoura is a DIY downtempo electronic artist and activist from Charleston, SC, now located in Chapel Hill, NC. Building from South Carolina experimental pop lineage such as Toro Y Moi & Washed Out, she produces an ethereal energy — but with a socio-political grounding that creates a new sound & story for the South. Her first album, released on a multi-media USB drive, is a documentation of her experiences as a queer femme of color buried in the deep South. She released «GTF» (get the fuck) on Inauguration Day, and continues to find consolation and power through music.
>> Kohinoorgasm (one word: ko-hee-noor-gasm) is the experimental pop music project of Josephine Shetty. As a mixed race, queer, desi artist, she seeks to expand conceptions of multidimensional identity-based experiences by writing and performing reflections on complex histories and emotions. She has performed at universities, museums, festivals, traditional music venues, and DIY spaces across the United States. Josephine is born and based in Los Angeles, CA.
>> Bindiram is an artist from Oakland, CA whose musical influences range from the Bay Area hyphy movement, to dancehall and his Guyanese heritage.
