Join us for another night of Bad Advice From Bad Women featuring Desiree C. Bailey, Barbara Browning, Alexis Cheung, Andrea L. Chu, Hermione Hoby, and Sarah McCarry.

About the readers:

Desiree C. Bailey is a poet, writer and educator. She is the author of the fiction chapbook In Dirt or Saltwater (O'Clock Press, 2016). Her work is published in Best American Poetry 2015, Callaloo, Washington Square Review and The Rumpus, among other publications. She has a BA from Georgetown University and MFA from Brown University. She has received fellowships from the New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts, Poets House, Kimbilio Fiction, The Conversation, the Norman Mailer Center, Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop and Princeton in Africa. She is a recipient of the 2013 Poets and Writer's Amy Award. Desiree was born in Trinidad and Tobago and lives in New York, where she teaches English at CUNY's Borough of Manhattan Community College. She is also an assistant poetry editor at Anomaly.

Barbara Browning is the author of three novels — The Gift (2017), The Correspondence Artist (2011), and I’m Trying to Reach You (2012) — as well as three academic books and a biography, Who the Hell is Imre Lodbrog?, co-authored with Sébastien Régnier, aka Imre Lodbrog. She teaches in the Department of Performance Studies at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. She’s also a poet, a dancer, and an amateur ukuleleist.

Alexis Cheung is a nonfiction writer and occasional journalist. Her essays and reporting have appeared in The New York Times, T, New York, The Believer, Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications. Originally from Hawaii, she currently lives in New York.

Andrea Long Chu is a writer, graphic artist, and doctoral candidate in literature at New York University. Her work has been published in n+1, Women & Performance, and TSQ. Her book project, Bad Politics, asks after what happens when people living under oppression don’t feel like resisting and do something else instead. She lives in Brooklyn with her cat and her girlfriend, in that order.

Hermione Hoby grew up in south London and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2007 with a double first in English Literature. After working on the Observer’s New Review section for a few years she moved to New York and has lived in Brooklyn since 2010. She writes about culture, especially books, film, music and gender, for the Guardian, the New Yorker, the New York Times, the TLS and others. She has interviewed hundreds of actors, writers, pop stars and other cultural figures including Toni Morrison, Meryl Streep, Naomi Campbell, Laurie Anderson, Debbie Harry and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. Her debut novel, Neon in Daylight, is published by Catapult.

Sarah McCarry is the author of the novels All Our Pretty Songs, Dirty Wings, and About A Girl, the editor and publisher of the chapbook series Guillotine, the Media Co-Coordinator for The Doula Project, and the Executive Director of the Eve Kososfky Sedgwick Foundation. Her work has been shortlisted for the Lambda Award, the Norton Award, and the Tiptree Award and she has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Joint Quantum Institute, and the Launchpad Writers' Workshop. She has written for the New York Times Book Review, Glamour, Refinery29.com, the Stranger, and elsewhere.
