«My father in his coffin looked better than most of the men I dated.»

-Opening line of Finding Mr. Rightstein.

Do you want your writing to resonate? Engage readers? Among the hallmarks of good writing, according to author/instructor, Nancy Davidoff Kelton, is self-revelation NOT self-absorption, which she describes as the difference between Ah Ha! and Oy Vey! This workshop gets you started and keeps you revealing your best self. Nancy gives writing exercises, techniques, and inspiration that tap into your experiences, memories, truths, and dreams. She offers advice on how to send your internal and external critics on sabbatical, establish a regular writing routine, avoid procrastination, and capture what you wish to express in your own voice. In-class and at-home writing exercises will open you up. Outside reading and marketing suggestions are given. Tip sheets will be handed out. Writing materials will not be provided, so please bring your pencils, paper or laptops!

In addition to her memoir, Finding Mr. Rightstein, Nancy Davidoff Kelton has written Writing from Personal Experience and 5 other books. Her essays have appeared in several sections of The New York Times, The Buffalo News, The Boston Globe, Parents, Working Mother, and Redbook among numerous other publications. She is currently adapting Finding Mr. Rightstein for the stage. She is a longtime writing instructor at the New School and has taught at NYU and Hunter College.

Admission Options: Participation in this workshop costs $40 and includes a copy of Finding Mr. Rightstein and a Strand pouch packed with goodies. Please note that payment is required for all online event orders at the time of checkout. The event will be located in the Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at our store at 828 Broadway at 12th Street. Materials not included, please come prepared with pen/paper or laptop.
