Pioneering electronic musician, composer, and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto is joined by fellow sonic adventurers Taylor Deupree, Joseph Branciforte, and Theo Bleckmann for an expansive 90-minute set exploring the outer reaches of sound, emotion, and ambience.
Mr. Sakamoto is a shapeshifting musical icon, revered the world over for his numerous solo albums, film scores, and collaborations with artists ranging from David Sylvian and Brian Wilson to Christian Fennesz and Alva Noto. Whether his instrument is piano, laptop, synthesizer, or a bowed glass sculpture, Sakamoto unfailingly brings a sense of wonder to his live performances.
For this long-form concert event, Mr. Sakamoto is joined by three similarly daring musicians. Taylor Deupree, founder of the American record label 12k, is an accomplished electronic musician whose work emphasizes a hybrid of natural sounds, technological mediation, and a deep attention to stillness. Sound artist and producer Joseph Branciforte, known for his studio work with artists on the cutting edge of jazz, is equally at home coaxing delicate, fractured sonorities out of his Fender Rhodes piano, modular synthesizer, and custom digital instruments. And Grammy-nominated vocalist Theo Bleckmann is an aural wonder, producing otherworldly tones and textures with his voice that distinguish him as one of the today’s most unique and engaging instrumentalists.
The evening promises to be a memorable meeting of four musical minds—a journey across vast sonic landscapes of vivid color.
