SCHEDULE FOR EVENING OF ACTION (following 10am walkouts):
5:30 — 6:30pm: An hour of activism. Participants will be given “action packets” that include calling and emailing elected officials about gun reform legislation, demanding that gun retailers stop selling military-style weapons, lobbying companies to end partnerships with the National Rifle Association, etc. You’ll also be able to visit stations to make signs and register to vote.
6:30 — 7:00pm: Speakers. We will hear from Stoneman Douglas alumna Claire McCue; Marie DeLus, a Moms Demand Action activist and former Marine sharpshooter who lost her nephew to gun violence; Alex Clavering, the lead organizer of the March for Our Lives NYC; and Stoneman Douglas student activists who survived the Parkland shooting (via video message).
In addition to traditional print and TV media, youth outlets like BuzzFeed, Teen Vogue, Student Problems, and Seventeen Magazine will be attending the event to help amplify student voices!
The event is organized by the high school civic network Coalition Z in association with Mobilizing MSD Alumni (NYC).
