Learn the history of graffiti, appreciating the art on the street, and inspiring others. Start with a visit to Jean-Michel Basquiat's old studio and the old home of The CBGB Rock Venue.
Then, take a stroll through the Centre-fuge Art Project that is using the New York City Subway as its canvas. Finish the tour by standing where Keith Haring once stood underneath Manhattan's largest street art mural. This tour is in and around the Lower East Side and Bowery areas of Manhattan.
The tour starts at 1pm, however we will have a pre-mingle starting at 12pm and we will introduce you to the other members attending the tour.
As you stroll through downtown Manhattan, hear about the history of street art and graffiti from its origins in the 1960s when the aerosol can was invented.
Then gain insight into tags, throw ups, and other types of street art as your guide shows you examples of modern–day graffiti culture, including work by artists like Space Invader, ROA, and Shepard Fairey (OBEY).
